Department of Social & Management Sciences

The Department of Social and Management Sciences seeks to provide quality education and training in various domains of the Social and Management Sciences including Accounting and Psychology.

  1. B.Sc. (Accounting) Degree Program

The B.Sc. (Accounting) degree program will equip students with the analytical and technical skills required to recognize and handle accounting-related issues.

The curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation of the principles of accounting and the fundamentals on which to build. The courses are designed to complement their skills and abilities with knowledge gained from their general education.


Accounting courses provide the fundamentals needed to succeed in careers such as:

  • Management:  General, financial, budget and asset management.
  • Accounting
    • Private accounting: General, Financial, Cost, Budgeting, Auditing, Data processing and cost accounting.
    • Public Accounting: Auditing, Advisory services, Tax planning and compliance, and computerized accounting services.
  • Government Accounting
  • Academia: Education, Research, Consulting

Learning Outcomes for B.Sc. (Accounting) Degree

  • Apply concepts of managerial accounting in decision making.
  • Apply accounting principles to prepare financial statements, record business transactions, analyse results of operations, cash flows etc.  
  • Ability to apply accounting principles to explain financial ratio analysis.
  • Ability to understand and apply business laws and abide by professional ethics of business.
  • Apply theories of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics to Use introductory level macroeconomics and microeconomics theories to assess the impact of domestic and global situations on an organization.
  • Ability to successfully integrate technology to record and maintain business transactions and other financial activities.

Program Structure

Duration of Program: The Program will be offered over 3 years (full-time) and 5 years (part-time) for High School Graduates

Award of Degree: In order to be awarded the B. Sc. (Accounting) degree, students must successfully complete the minimum of 36 credits of courses in General Education and the minimum of 60 credits of core courses in the Accounting Program.

Delivery Mode: Courses will be delivered face-to-face and online.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the minimum requirements to enter a program of study leading to a 4-year Bachelor degree in Accounting in their country of origin. These include GCE (Ordinary Level) Credit Pass in English, Mathematics and at least three other relevant courses in Liberal Arts (Humanities) or Social Sciences.

Applicants with GCE (Advanced Level) or a 2-year college diploma in another discipline or in a related and relevant subject area may be given an advanced standing or credit towards admission into the degree program in Accounting at American University of St. Vincent, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  Additionally,

(a). Applicants must achieve a passing grade in CSEC or GCE ‘O’ level in no more than 2 examination sittings.

(b). Applicants with a post-secondary Diploma or Associate Degree must have attained minimum GPA of 3.0 or a cumulative B+ average from a recognized tertiary level institution. 

No entrance examination is required at this time.

This discipline includes core courses in Management, Accounting, Business Statistics, Business Law, Economics, Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Marketing, etc.
